Platinum History
When it comes to platinum history, this precious metal goes back a long way.
In fact, platinum history can be traced back to Ancient Egypt, which means that
the history of this beautiful metal spans around three thousand years. When
exploring platinum history you will find that this metal has emerged and then
disappeared periodically throughout the ages, but throughout its history
platinum has always managed to fascinate and captivate those that have
encountered it, very much in the same way that it continues to do so today. A
look through platinum's history shows that this metal has been enjoyed by
ancient civilizations, royalty and high society, and today is loved by people
from all walks of life.
A brief look at platinum history
Following its first use by the Ancient Egyptians, platinum history shows that
Ancient South American Civilizations such as the Incas began to use this metal
with gold to make a range of jewelry. However, after this, platinum's history
hit something of a grey area, as the metal seemed to disappear for thousands of
years. Platinum history can be traced once again from the late 1500s, where the
Spanish conquistadors encountered it and gave it the name platina,
translated as 'little silver'. In the 1700s, platinum became a coveted
ingredient amongst European alchemists who used it in an attempt to create gold
from lead. Over the next few centuries, this metal found its way into many
areas, adorning everything from the fingers of royals to stunning Faberge eggs.
Platinum history over recent years
It was in the early 1900s according to platinum history when the metal was
successfully used to make jewelry by Louis Cartier. From thereon the popularity
of platinum continued to rise, and today enjoys a huge following amongst a wide
range of people, from the rich and famous to everyday folk looking for something
unique and special. Platinum's history reveals that this rare and stunning metal
has managed to stand the test of time for thousands of years, and although it
has disappeared during that time it has now re-emerged more popular than ever,
particularly for platinum wedding bands and platinum diamond rings.
Not only is platinum stunning to behold, but its hypoallergenic properties,
high precious metal value, and long-lasting properties make it an extremely
popular choice today. Although more expensive than gold, platinum serves as a
modern and seductive choice for people from all walks of life.

Customer Review: Excellent buy for a nice platinum ring
As suggested on other reviews, I ordered a half size smaller than my regular ring size and it fits perfectly. The ring is marked "PLAT 950 FG" on the inside. I believe the "FG" is a makers mark. The exterior is as pictured, but the interior of the ring is more rounded that the "step" that appears in the photo, which may be a reflection in the photograph anyway. The thickness seems just about right. Not to thick and not to thin. It is extremely comfortable to wear.
Now for the best part. On my Ohaus 505 scales, this sample weighs 143.5 grains, which converts to 9.29 grams. What a buy at today's Platinum prices.
Needless to say, I am very pleased with my purchase.
